D16y8 Build up

I wana drop a d16y8 in my 88 Hatch. What would I have to do as for wiring? Is there a way to keep it obd0 or is there conversion harnesses so i dont have to change it totally by myself.. I know how to do MPFI and VTEC. I wanted to make a SOHC VTEC that is more powerful then dual cams. Bore it out new hi comp pistons, rods, cam n gear, si tranny, and port n polish.. I heard getting d16a1 pistons outta an integra will get the compression up to 12s is this tru? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Re: D16y8 Build up

Or actually any newer SOHC Vtec motor into my car. Maybe a d16z6 into my car... I just need to know what wiring I gotta do to have this done. Whether I can keep it non obd or I have to get a harness to upgrade to OBD1

I'm doin' the same thing

I just dropped a d16y8 into my 89 si hatch. I did it all on my own. So far so good i'd say, but my final step is the wiring. Lemme know how your swap goes and if you got any suggestions. As far as I know you gotta get a pr3 or pwo ecu in order to have vtec. I think you could also use an rpm activated switch. I've got the switch but I haven't set it up yet... holla back.

Re: D16y8 Build up

well to start off it is gonna take time and money for a fully built sohc motor to be more powerful then a dohc bt it can be done.. if you are planning on going all motor then you have quite a task ahead of you. im not sure about the cams from a teg. sorry. well good luck and let me know how it goes

Re: D16y8 Build up

o yea and this is a post from anpther thread
"Yes you do need the tranny, axles and shiftlinkage also. Your D-series ones won't work with the B-series. The tranny won't bolt up, the axle splines are different and the D-series shiftlinkage is too short to work."
