1997 Oxygen sensor replacement

I need to replace the oxygen sensors in a 97 explorer, can i do that alone?

should be able to. Put your car on ramps or blocks, never use a jack. When you under, look for the oxygen sensor beside the catalytic converter, you'll should see the sensor. Once you have that off make sure to follow the wires and see where you unhook it, and then replace it.

You may want to consider an OEM sensor. Some of the aftermarket do not have connectors on them and you may have to splice and solder wires. OEM is not that more expensive. I look at it this way, you are already saving money on the labor by doing it yourself and it you don't have to fuss with spicing and soldering and you will be done with the job faster. Also there is anti-seize compound applied on the threads, it needs to be there so be careful that you don't wipe/rub it off. I'm not sure if your car has more than one sensor. If it has more than one replace them also. O2 sensors deteriorates with mileage. If one goes the other is not far behind. I suspect that you're replacing because you got the check engine light/code or you failed a smog test.
