95 leaking something yellow
We have a 95 Buick Regal. We got it from my grandma this past summer. It has (now sit down) 22,000 miles on it. Here is my question. There is something leaking that is yellowish in color. I think coolant? It will leak a few drips even when sitting overnight in the cold. I think there is a bad seal, but where? Can anyone help me?

The only thing that could be leaking that is yellow in color is the de-icer type of windshield washer fluid. Perhaps a hose is cracked going to the washer reservoir on the drivers side above the battery. They did use the Dex-Cool antifreeze on 1995 Regals but it is orange in color, not yellow.

The vehicle has had the radiator flushed and filled many times. My grandma had it done every year (just to be on the safe side.) She was fanatical on the upkeep. So would they have replaced it with Dex-Cool or something else?

Yes they could have replaced the coolant with a different antifreeze. They could have used a universal antifreeze. The universal antifreeze can be yellow in color depending on he brand. It is still long life antifreeze that is good for 5 years/150,000 miles just like the Dex-Cool. It is just universal because it can be mixed with virtually any kind of antifreeze with no adverse affects. A lot of shops use this kind because so they don't need to worry about using specific types of coolant for different vehicle. They just use one universal antifreeze instead. If your grandma had it serviced at a dealership they would have definitely used Dex-Cool though. Look in your coolant reservoir on the passenger side under the hood and see what color it is
I would also check your washer reservoir on the driver side and see what color the fluid is. The windshield washer fluid could be yellow if it is the de-icer type. Your Regal is over 10 years old so the vacuum hoses (including those used for washer fluid) may be starting to breakdown and leak. |
