My wife's 1996 Villager will cut off when she makes a turn. It only happens 2-3 times a week but no one can find the problem. There are no other symptoms - it does not sputter, hesitate or anything else. It will just cut off. Until this week it has only happened on left turns but then this week it happened once on a right turn. They are not violent turns or anything unusual but it is very dangerous because of oncoming traffic. However, when she puts it in Neutral it starts right back up with no problem.
What can the problem be? Please help! |

Re: Help - can't find problem
only on turn? what about stop signs or lights? does it die as the brakes are applied or after released? how full was the gas tank on these days?
could be a single problem or a combination of a few just need more detail. on some 90 ded. turns your fuel will go to one side of the tank for a second depriving pump of fuel for a second or two, causing air in line and no fuel to keep started. thats why i asked about fuel level on those days. right now i can only guess just give a few more details or answer the above. hope to help you out. |

Re: Re: Help - can't find problem
Thanks for the reply.
It does happen on traffic lights on occasssion and it is when applying the gas after the stop - not the brakes. I'm not sure about the amount of gas - I'll have to ask if my wife has noticed that but she usually doesn't allow the level to get extremely low. Thanks, rws Quote:

Re: Help - can't find problem
sounds like time for a tune up. plugs wires fuel filter, and air filter. check egr valve this could also cause this. it is easy to do . take it off clean out carbon deposites
and replace it. |

Re: Re: Help - can't find problem
It has not been that long since I had it tuned up. Wouldn't there be some other symptoms because this doesn't even sputter or anything - it just turns off? It runs fine otherwise.
Thanks, rws Quote:

Re: Help - can't find problem
Check your air intake for a clog or broken air filter. It also may be your MAP sensor going bad.

Re: Help - can't find problem
I dont know if you have fixed this, but check for pinched wires or see if you have some crud in your fuel line. Sloshing fuel in a bad pump will cause your car to go poof. I would check fuel pressure and check vacuum lines and timing next. It has to be something that is allowing the motor to either be dragged down or allowing the motor to die with the load.
