95 talon engine problems

My Talon just recently had another motor put in it. The problem is it keeps surging when brakes are on and the tak keeps jumpng on it, also when you try to give it gas it will backfire and the transmission acts slow on changing gears. I bought a new coil pak for it. If anyone has any ideas PLEASE HELP. Some friends put the motor in it for me.

Not trying to be a jerk, but you need to tell us which motor you have (turbo or non-turbo). You will definetly get more feedback if people are more aware of what you have.

Re: 95 talon engine problems

Also the RPMS race up and down on it, and it backfires, seems to have a miss, I thought it was out of time but have been told these cars can't be times. The transmission seems sluggish on changing gears (not slippen though) or takes it time going into different driving gears

Re: 95 talon engine problems

for one thing it's a Dual OverHead Cam 2.0L engine. second of all these cars can be timed and actually timing them correctly is VERY VERY VERY important, probably one of the most important things, if not the most important of all. are you having problems with gas mileage or anything like that??

I think maybe your timing might have been messed up. But check the wires and plugs also make sure they are gapped right. And try to change your auto tranny fluid.

So is the timing done with the timing light? I haven't been able to drive because of the way it is running, I'm afraid it will break down. Timing though can do cause it to run like it is though right? I had a guy drive it and he thought it was the timing just by driving it.

When the motor was put in maybe a month ago all new fliuds were done too. I will check the spark plug gap though, the tranny fliud looks good and doesn't smell burnt either.

Re: 95 talon engine problems

Think I got it fixed. Took it and had a dianostic which come up the Coil and it new, so I put new spark slugs and wires , and unplugged the coil and pludded it back in, and then had all codes erased and it runs like a new car. The guy said that even if coil was replaced and the codes were not erased it would still do the same thing, but it it would happen to do it again we think it maybe the wires going to the coil. Thanks for all you help
