Colorado Vibration

I traded off a fine S-10 extend cab for a new Colorado 4x2 entend cab last summer. For the 1st 1000 miles it exceeded expectations. Then it began to vibrate at about 50mph. I've had Chevy do the complete stall. The tires have been balanced 6 times now. The tires have been swithced and upgraded twice. 2 dealerships admit to the problem and don't know how to fix it. They both said they would not want to try and sell it off their used car lat like it runs. Chevy customer assistance are the most miserable people I've ever dealt with. They say they would get and extended warrenty and free oil changes if I lived with the problem. They contend all the little trucks shake. I am probably going to have to file a suit with a lawyer now as they simply won't stand behind their product. I will NEVER buy a GM product again.

May sound like a long shot, but I suspect a defective harmonic balancer on your engine. Should be a simple fix. Ask the service dept if they would check it for you.

What do you mean problem with the head? What website?

Was reading about valve spring problems and compression loss. Apparently the fix is to remove the head and get it rebuilt.

Thanks for reply. I'm atg end of line with colorado and Chevy. The vibration continues to increase to the point where my wife if afraid to drive the truck. Gone throuhg arbitration and waiting for a final ruling. GM says the vibration is an inheriant trait that we need to live with. These are miserable lieing people who care nothernig about their customrs. I've both GM for 25 years and will never again.

The reason I have been checking out the Silverado and Colorado forums is I have been thinking about getting one in the next year or so. Right now I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 base model (V-6 five speed manual only option is A/C). I think I may stick with Chrysler as I have had zero problems out of warranty. Most of the problem now is all the manufacturers are cutting costs by buying a lot of Mexican made parts and cutting costs wherever they can.

I purchased a 2005 colorado and have a vibration problem......I purchased on 1/19/2005
It has been into the dealership 3 times.
They have replaced the tire, turned the rotors and force balanced the tires several times.
The last time it was in the shop they told me there is nothing more they can do. They said it is within gm Specs.
I called them back today and they said they are still waiting on an answer from gm on what else they can do as far as upgrading the tires or what ever.

I will post again with an outcome.
If i dont get resolution soon i will persue other alternatives.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom described in the PI.

Condition/Concern:
Customers with the Z71 or Z85 suspension package may experience a vibration at highway speeds. This may be caused by the tires flat spotting as a result of tires reaching high temperatures and then cooling while parked.

Recommendation/Instructions:
Please review bulletin 03-00-91-001B. Engineering is currently testing redesigned tires. At this time the correct procedure is to replace the tires with the same brand and model. No other tires have been TPC rated for this vehicle. In production, Z71 vehicles, equipped with P265/75R 15 tires, built after 5/17/04 have updated tires installed. To obtain a updated tire(s) (P265/75R 15 only) for a service application, inspect the last 4 numbers of the DOT code. Tires manufactured after date code 2504, will be an updated tire. When ordering the tire(s), it is important to order the tire(s) by its article number from the tire manufacture or store. The article number is the manufactures part number. Order article number 1548080 to obtain the 265/75R 15 tire(s) with date code 2504 or higher. Tires ordered by the this article number will assure the correct tire(s) will be received. When replacing and balancing these tires, typical road force variations should be 20lbs or less for the P265 series tire. After this road force is accomplished, test drive to confirm vibration has been eliminated.

Tires for the Z85 equipped vehicles are currently in the validation process. This PI will be updated with a julian date when one is received from engineering. When replacing and balancing these tires, typical road force variations should be 17lbs or less for the P235 series tires. After this road force is accomplished, test drive to confirm vibration has been eliminated. Note: The DOT code is usually long in numbers and resides on the side wall of the tire. The last 4 numbers make up a julian date code. To explain the julian date code of 2504, the 25 equal the week of production and the 04 indicates the year of production. So the above date code consists of tires manufactured in the 25th week of 2004 or later.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance.
