advice before i purchase 74 cutlass

iam thinking of purchasing a 73-74 cutlass. it has a very nice new paint job. and also a few problems. transmission fuel is leaking i thinks thats a front seal, the owner also said its burning oil. what would cause a 350 gold rocket motor to burn oil?the price is 1800

Usually it alot of miles or not enough oil changes.
Offer the seller less money, why start out with obvious problems

Re: advice before i purchase 74 cutlass

Sorry to say that it sounds like an engine rebuild. If you see blue smoke from the exhaust, you will definately need rings and more than likely the cylinders honed. While it's opened, you'd be wise to get new valves, rockers and a cam.

As was mentioned by Mrbizness, offer ALOT less and consider picking up a used motor and tranny from a junk yard. Call around. Some bone yards offer warrantees on their used drivetrains. Some places offer rebuilt engines as well. ...75Trump
