96 Honda Civic Alarm Probs w/ Low Temps
When outside temperatures drop below zero, the alarm system activates in our 96 Civic. I find the Civic in the garage in the morning with the interior dome light flashing. If I try to lock/unlock the doors with the remote, the alarm sounds and will not stop when any of the remote buttons are pushed. I have to quickly reprogram the remote to turn the alarm off, but then I lose the alarm and the remote key entry system. I am tired of waking the neighbors on cold mornings. This does not happen every morning when it is below zero, but will only occur randomly when the temp is below zero. It has not ever happened about zero. Any advice??

Honda Civic Alarm
I'm having the same problem. This morning my Civic was beeping away in the garage, having alarmed. It timed out before I got to it. I think all you have to do is put the key in the ignition to clear it. Anyway, I plan to find the motion switch and either replace it, repair it, or disable it. I'll keep you posted.

Re: 96 Honda Civic Alarm Probs w/ Low Temps
I was searching for the same problem and came across this forum as I have been experiencing this since last year when my Civic keeps performing the same way as all of you have been describing it. The only difference is that I haven't been driving the car for a few days and it will suddenly act up.
I went to an auto parts store and asked if it may be due to some bad fuses in the car. So I went ahead and picked up the 3A mini fuses as the diagram for the fuses had mentioned there were 2 areas that it uses for Security. Hope this works out, I'll post my findings in about a few days. Cheers |

Re: 96 Honda Civic Alarm Probs w/ Low Temps
shit i've been having similar problems with the Sentra. After arming it and a few minutes later it will flash the signals, dome lights come on and it will unlock all 4 doors by itself. I thought the damn thing was possessed.

update on fuse change for security
I have been having zero problems with the alarm memory after changing the fuse. I haven't driven the car frequently and even though the weather hasn't been cold over here at nights, I don't see the same problems at all. This may be the resolution to this issue.

Re: update on fuse change for security
I will try replacing the fuses. It is a great suggestion and hopefully, we will stop waking the neighbors with our cold morning wakeup alarms. Thanks for the input!

I figure since we both own a 9 year old car that it might as well be the fuses that need changing. You also might consider replacing other fuses as well to make sure that other items in the car are functional.

Re: Re: update on fuse change for security
Wanted to find out a status on your alarm situation, I had the control unit replaced which cost me $400 bucks to replace. However I had encountered the same problem again. The Honda repair shop is stumped out of their minds with this issue. Even their service technicians had a debate whether it was the control unit vs the radio. The radio replacement since it is integrated with the alarm will cost $600 to replace vs $400 for the control unit. I am out $400 for this issue and so much time involved. I may never find out what the issue is......

I had this problem with my 97 Civic this past winter for the second time. In my case, the dome light was flashing, and the remotes WOULD NOT disable the alarm nor, unlock the doors. The first time I had it happen, I had the Alarm control unit replaced, as someone above, but alas, it returned this past winter, almost to the day as the prior year.
This time, they tell me that it could be the radio. They said that in the 97 civics, the electronics for the factory alarm were built into the Factory Radio, and something with that could be going bad. I elected not to have it replaced, since they did say that to stop the alarm from going off, you can "reset" it by pressing the reset on the radio, or if that fails, pulling the fuses. |
