Key won't come out of ignition

I have a 2001 Grand Am GT and lately when I put the car in park the shifter doesn't always lock and I can't get my key to the "Off" position. I have to play with the shifter a bit befor I can remove the key. Does anyone know if the shifter linkage needs to be adjusted and if so how?

I had this happen on my '93 Grand AM. What I stumbled onto is underneath the button you push in with your thumb to change gears on the actual knob/handle is a small clip that gets loose and slips out a little. Play with it (pushing it in all the way or pulling it out/down a little) while turning the key to the off positon. Anyway, that's what works for me and it happens more than a few times.
