laser wire stripper

Ok, dumb question...I watched Executive Decision the other day and saw they had this awesome laser pen that they used to strip wires on the bomb...is that really made??? NE1 know? And if so, where is it sold....It would save me so much time compared to the normal strippers I use from Snap-On...but Im sure they cost a lot more and I would have to watch out for Insurance claims! Thanx!

Re: laser wire stripper

lol, it sounds awesome, yet dangerous at the same time. I never saw the movie, but I would imagine that if it is a real device, they wouldnt sell it to the public. Imagine if you made any mistakes.... OOPS. yea, lol.

Re: laser wire stripper

Possable, impractical, dangerous, and not available to the public.

Re: laser wire stripper

Oh alright thanks for the input. I started looking around for it online and all I could find were huge machines that stripped ribbon cables for computers....It would be nice though! I cant imagine how much time that would save me in a day.

Re: laser wire stripper

The thing was really precise on the movie (yah, yah I know it was a movie) basically he would touch it to the wire and about 1/4" of the insulation was gone leaving just the copper. When I install a cd changer, radar detector, alarm, remote start, keyless, sat radio....into a car I usually tap into factory wiring which can take some time for some cars depending on the location of the wire...I guess youd have to see the movie....

Re: laser wire stripper

I could just see the mistakes piling up. Aim slightly off and strip a whole cluster of wires... oopsy. "My bad, I just shorted out every circuit in the whole car and melted all the harnesses too.... sorry dawg. Let me know if you ever fix that"... lol.
