stuck in 4 wheel drive???
Yesterday I took my "NEW" 94 S-Blazer fourwheeling, it is basically stock except for 31" AT's. Now the truck performed great as a matter of fact it kept up with my buddies 88 Rover with a susp lift, 33's, and a rear diff lock. Anyways, when we were done I took it out of 4 low and went to 4 high to get off the trail, got on the street, took it out of four wheel drove a bit the did a powerbrake to smoke the tires, well after the smoke let out we started to cruise. We then started to hear a tire squealing and the steering wheel was pulling hard to the right. So I pulled off to a gas station. While making the left turn both tires started chirping like it was still in four wheel drive. We stopped inspected the vehicle went back through the 4 wheel gears back to 2wd. Then my friend said he had heard some trucks had to be driven in reverse to get the 4wheel to disengage, I have never heard this but it seemed to work cause we drove back home with no problems. later that day I engaged the 4wheel again and disengaged it while driving, 4high, it was doing the chirping again and pulling hard to the right, then a loud CLUNK and was fine. Is something broken? Not working right? Or is it just like this all the time, or does driving backwards really work? Thanks!

Re: stuck in 4 wheel drive???
Sounds like the vacuum switch on the transfer case is not releasing the front axle completely. Cheap fix, change it. However, you may also want to check the actuator motor (under the battery) and the cable to the front axle.

Re: stuck in 4 wheel drive???
I would check your 4x4 fluid. Were you in water that coulda gotten in? Mine has been "stuck" in 4 high before and I drove it abckwards only to find out it actually did realease. Up until this eyar I neevr had to drive in backwards to get it to realease. Looekd at my fluid was choclate milk in conisitancy and color. That told me I need to drain and change it. Water got in it and caused problems. Checking the fluids is a very easy and quick task to start with in my thoughts. But yes also check for vacum if your fluid is fine.

Re: stuck in 4 wheel drive???
Very true, your differentials and transfer cases should all be serviced every 60,000 miles or so with new fluids.

I checked the diff fluids this weekend and all is well, it was full, but I drained it anyways and put in new fluids, it has new half shafts, (still has paper stickers) where can I find the vaccum part for the transfer case and what is the exact name so I can change it anyways?

Re: stuck in 4 wheel drive???
OK the problem is getting worse, anytime the tires lose traction, the four wheel drive is engaging!! I have to stop, take it out of 2 wheel, switch through the gears, then put it back in two wheel and drive backwards a few feet for the 4 wheel to disengage. Would buying the vaccum switch in the pic above fix this problem?

Re: stuck in 4 wheel drive???
This is weird, never heard of somthing going INTO 4x4, rather mostly going out of it.

Re: stuck in 4 wheel drive???
Your hubs could also be getting worn out. How many miles are on your Blazer? Sometimes worn out hubs can engage themselves(at least partially). Good Luck
