Tiburon vs Stealth Hints and Information

Alright, this hasnt exactly happened yet but its one of my friends tiburon. He is getting his liscence in march, and this is like a well waited race. He talks so much shyt on his tiburon (spent 12,000 dollars on it) and goes around saying he has done all these mods to it and what not.. tell you the truth he isnt even really a friend. But for mods to his car he has an exhaust and a cold air intake. Stock these things are like 130 HP. And he is saying he will demolish my car already due to my car being so heavy. Well hate to tell him that he should read up on his car a little bit because stealth Rt is at 3080 LBS. And tiburons are at like 2940 lbs. And he has a body kit on his car and subs w/ a system so that easily buts him around 300. So the weight difference doesnt even make me flinch. Although here is the thing, I cant loose to him. As of right now, I hear he is turbo charging his tiburon from a blown turbo and he is going to rebuild the turbo. Now.. i dont know if rebuilding a blown turbo will increase the turbo or decreause. Also if he does turbo charge his car.... i mean his parents turbo charge his car, what are the chances of us 2 in a race..? Also im trying to prepare myself for this race as of right now too. (this is like a big rival in our town.. all the ppl who have sports cars or whatever are looking forward to this) I cant let him win, because I want to shut him up of how he bull shits on his car by destroying him in a race. i'm getting a cold air intake and a new filter here within 2 weeks.. are there any mods that I could do to increase the horsepower of my stealth to make sure that I do destroy him. I want to make him look like an ass. Thanks guys.. i would really appreciate this. Im getting pumped just talking about it.

Re: Tiburon vs Stealth Hints and Information

88 turbo = junk (educated guess)...is your'e R/T 5-speed, if so don't worry about a Tiburon. There's a lot of people that talk so much shit until you finally challenge them and shove their foot in their mouth. I've only got to do that once, it feels good though.

I stomped a Tib a few months ago - in my Accord.

Unless he does some major work to his car, you'll eat him up.

Project01, listen bro, you asked me for the specs of a turbo charged Tiburon on an aftermarket complete turbo kit which runs close to $3500.00. if so the Tibi would make 200 - 210 hp. I did not know he was using a rebuilt turbo. that alone will limit his potential, the fact that its an 88! he wont make more then 180hp, I FREAKING GUARANTEE IT! I have done 3 turbo conversions so far. a 1994 Talon 2.0 to 2.0 Turbo. a 1990 Nissan 240 to a KA20 Turbo, and a Ford Probe GT V6 to a twin turbo. right now I am working on my fourth car but I wont mention it cause its not finished and anything can happen. this does not make me an expert but I can share my experience with you at least. Turbos are not magical, they will not double your HP! HP depends on tunning, with the right dyno tuning and air/fuel mixtures you can add 40% more HP to a N/A which is around how much a turbo will give you. A turbo car + dyno tuning = tons of power. it sounds to me like he is just swapping out basic crap, how is he planning on regulating his a/f mix? where is he gonna get the exhaust manifold to fit an old ass turbo to a new car? It sound to me like he is just building a bomb and asking for it to blow up in his face. My advice is to race him right now! challenge him if he thinks he is such hot shit, if he walks away you rub it in and make him look like the pussy he is. if he ever gets that turbo he will still be underpowered and lose, he might blow it up before he even gets a chance to run and since its such a complicated job he might just never go through with it.

Re: Tiburon vs Stealth Hints and Information

If your friend is getting his liscence in March he isnt going to have it very long if he's already planning a race. The guy needs to get plenty of everyday driving under his belt before he attempts to race anyone.

In terms of getting you faster (which everyone else has ignored ) , go to an empty parking lot (so you can't get arrested, just kicked out... Plus you don't have to worry about traffic and laws and all) and practice some launches and shifting into secind and 3rd if you can find a big enough lot.

Re: Tiburon vs Stealth Hints and Information

hmm just asking but i thought sl 3000gt was something like 3000pounds or 1520kg's the base model is only 28xx-pounds or 1420kg's so the tiburion shuldnt have an advantage in the weight department.

the r/t car is 222hp and is about as heavy.... i wuld think that even with a good turbo the tiburion wuld be smashed. i mean lets say it gets 222horsepower also. you still wuld winn because you have no turbo lag.

but what performance enhancements are concerned i wuld thing better breathing (airfilter system, and exhaust) wuld give extra hp boost i mean for christ sake there are 3 cats on the car and i think 2 mufflers on the dohc cars (im not shure i have not checked.

a performance chip for the ecu shuld do good things. but anything beond that is a bit more expensive. but to give you ideas i recomend cheking www.dynamicracing.com its a fairly expensive parts site but it has allot of specialized 3000gt/stealth parts and you can see what you can do to the car there

Re: Re: Tiburon vs Stealth Hints and Information

Evem if the kid is still driving he does not have real world experience. I know I wouldnt want to race some 16yo for fear they might make a mistake and smash into me or worsh run off the road and injure or kill themselves.

As far as cats projects car only has 1 cat. As far as two mufflers, one is a pre muffler is not restrictive at all.

As far as (i need to stop saying that) the turbo off the Turbo coupe, its relatively small so lag should be almost non existant. Turbos Tibis do pretty well. If he really has 12k in mods and its done right you might just be in for a surprise.

You may be right. It all depends on how you read it.

im new to 3000gts and turbo cars in general, but isnt there a boost mod you can do for free thats good for 20 hp in the 3000?

my only other advice is to practice drag racing (most importantly launching) if there is a track nearby you can practice there worry free(but not for free)

on second thought.... you have a 4wd car, so unless you bog or stall it shouldnt be that hard to launch, or atleast fix quicker than a rwd if you do manage to launch to hard, because youve got traction at 4 wheels instead of all the power at 2 or 1 wheel.
