turbo b16?

I recently posted a thread that iwas going to buy an EF hatch and wanted to swap in a b16. I just recently got my b16, tranny, ecu, wiring harness shift linkage, my friends actually going to pic it up here in the next few days. The funny thing about it is that i dont have a car to put it in yet but i figured that 89-91 hatches and crx's were pretty easy to come by. So what i thought i might also do is get a turbo kit for the b16 before i have the car so that i can have all of my performance parts already to put in so my questions are what type of powers gains might i get from a stock b16 turboed with low boost obviously, and what turbo kit might anyone reccomend any help and knowledge would greatly be appreciated.

Re: turbo b16?

200+ hp tuned with junkyard turbo kit at low boost. If you want a kit... search ebay and look at the names. The one that comes to mind is Greddy for the B. I don't have either so I couldn't tell you. My advice is get a car first, read a lot, put your b16 in your car, drive it (if you put motor in correctly), then go from there...

Re: turbo b16?

get a car first and then get parts lol...b16s and turbo kits are almost always readily available :P The only reason i could think of buying the engine etc. early is if you came across a really sweet deal that you couldn't refuse on some parts

Re: turbo b16?

Budget isn't really an issue but i wanted to keep my car as much of a dailly driver as possible so at first i probably wouldnt want to build up the internals. I know with turboing any car thats not supposed be turbo can take away from some of the daily driver factor. But for right now i would like the motor to last as long as possible before i start having to crack it open. How much boost can i run safely cause i hear a lot of different things like anywhere from 6-10 psi is what i've been told.

Re: turbo b16?

i think 7-8 psi should be fine on stock internals

I would put the motor in and get it running before putting on a turbo kit. That way if it dosent run right its alote less trouble shooting. Unless your taking it to a shop, then its their headache.

Re: turbo b16?

I would say 5-6 psi of boost...
I personally would never boost more than that on a stock B16 and risk blowing it...
it's got a pretty high compression stock.

Re: turbo b16?

well I would have to suggest a 5th gen hatch personally. ive had 4th,5th, and 6th gen hatches.. but i live in san diego too and i know how cheap you can get stuff around here. you can get a 4th gen chassis for 12-1500, then at Honda Acura Parts in Chula Vista you can get a b16 WITH installation for 2500, warranty and everything. then i would suggest building up the motor BEFORE putting in the turbo kit. if you live in jamul you are going to put on some serious freeway mileage coming in and out of the city everyday. there are tons of b16/gsr hatches for sale in san diego, just make sure that the motor isnt a stolen one brought back across from tj :ŹD
