Problem with Reverse

I am getting no power when I put my car in Reverse. I just did a fluid and filter change, cleaned the magnet and pan and replaced the gasket with still no change. When I put the car in Rev. IF it rev it up to about 6500/7000 RPMs MAYBE it might go backwards 3 inches. Can anyone help clue me in as to what the problem might be and or how to fix it. Thanks in advance.

Re: Problem with Reverse

I agree with lionelkirk2004, you have a transmission problem that is going to take a tranny shop to repair. It could be a bad reverse clutch or solenoid but a transmission repairman will be able to determine that for sure.

Well not to be rude but, it doesn't take PHD in Astrophysics to figure out thats its a tranny problem. I was hoping for some advise other than "take it to a mechanic". I guess it was my own fault for not being specific enough. I figured it was assumed that it was a transmission problem when I wrote that I changed the fluid, filter and seal.Does anyone one else have any advise?

Well, my dad can do transmissions in about 2 1/2 hours, and is a certified master technician. I'll ask him when he gets home and see what he thinks and get back to this thread .

Re: Problem with Reverse

Does it have all the other gears? Also, what engine do you have and is it the 4 speed automatic?

Re: Problem with Reverse

You may have either a broken reverse band or a bad reverse servo. Either way, you're most likely going to have to take it in and have the transmission torn down to get it fixed.

I just had the problem fixed, I was doing this for a year or so, it got to the point that i had to put in in 2nd and then it would engage, but i didn't want to spend the cash to fix an internal problem. The problem is with the dip stick, I just brought my car into the shop today at 8:00am and i was fixed at 8:05am all it is, the mechanic told me was out of the factory the dip sitck was too long thus when you had it serviced(probably at a regular shop not a tranny shop) they fill it up to the factory spec.(which are wrong). He told me that you should add a liter to a liter and a half, he did it for me for free and now it works like a charm. Let me know if it works.
