Question custom traction control disable

Hey,
My 94 3.4 comes with traction control (acceleration slip protection I think its called ) and I cant find a unit to disable it. SLP makes a unit for 97-98 and for 99-02 but nothing for my 94. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as where to start. Thanks alot

Re: custom traction control disable

As in where to start in making my own =) I can easily get a wiring diagram off of Alldata if its just as simple as interupting the circuit but I am not even sure how the system exactly works

Re: custom traction control disable

not sure but it could be like how anti lock brakes work... they use two speed sensors on the front and one in the back that monitors the wheels and when u slow down it kinda monitors all the tires to make sure one dosent slow down too much more than all the others if one does that means its locking up and it kinda sends repeated pulses to the brakes to even all the tire speeds back up...like i said i have no clue if this is how it works but it seems very probable and i see no other way of the car knowing if your loosing traction. now if that is what it uses (vehicle speed sensors) then it could cause trouble w/ your anti lock brakes by disabling them if they share the same sensors

Re: custom traction control disable

I found out from a tech that it is done by applying brake, but they wont give me any suggestions as far as disabling it.

Re: custom traction control disable

i cant say i would try to diable it im sure u could though by just taking out the vehicle speed sensor but then your anti lock brakes would be gone too and w/ power assited brakes it would probably lock up way too easy

Re: custom traction control disable

Yesterday I printed up a wiring diagram for the ABS/TC system, and I noticed that there was option from the factory to have a TC disable switch. It went just below the cig. lighter (right of conv. top if equiped) I pulled out the console this afternoon but I couldnt find the plug ( thinking that they used a universal harness) mon. I will talk to on of the dealers and see what I can find out. If I can just plug the switch into a plug aalready on the harness that would make the job a lot easier

Re: custom traction control disable

I didn't think 3.4L engine cars came with traction control.

Re: custom traction control disable

Mine doesn't have it, I've checked before. I thought it was just a Z28 option, I guess I was wrong.

Re: custom traction control disable

ok i know its about a mustang but probably the same concept here goes i was reading the lastest hod rod magazine to day (has the red 05 mustang on the cover) and it was talking about how from the factory the most u could do is bark the tires on a good day on take off but as soon as the tires spun faster than the engine or vice versa the throttle automatically eased up on its own and it wouldnt let u power shift either they fixed it by just having that aspect taken out of the programming so u might wanna call hypertec or one of those companies and see if they know anything bout it

Re: custom traction control disable

I have it on my 04' mazda 6. When ever it's enabled and the wheels start to break traction , no matter how much gas your giving it , the wheels will slow down until the stp spinning. Basically you bog it out. You should just have a fuse for that particular device. 'should' as for my car , I just have a TCS button I push to disable it.

Re: custom traction control disable

yeah one of the new porshes has that w/ just a switch and it really impressed me they showed them on tv taking it out in about a foot of snow (about 6in on the road) w/ slush and everything and they enabled the traction control and never let up off the gas through sharp turns and all and it also had all wheel drive that worked w/ the traction control where it could sense which of the four wheels was slipping and ease up on just that one, then they pulled into a parking lot and w/ the flip of a switch wala no traction and it was donuts all over the place...now i dont really like the styling of porshes too much (look like little tin death boxes to me) but what it had to offer there really impressed the hell outta me guess u would have had to of seen it though

Re: custom traction control disable

I see it every morning when I get into my mazda heh. It too comes factory with a TCS disable switch for summer driving. Only thing pisses me off is when I turn the car off , it automatically re-engages when it's turned back on so if I try doing a burn out..I jus end up bogging out if i don't hit the button. Porsches are insane little go-karts.
