oil presure gauge went crazy
my oil presure gauge is reading all the way to the max. I just got the car out of the garage yesterday and did'nt notice it till tonight alos i had my cb wires hanging and i pushed them back up. my cb is located under the drivers side
maybe it's a sensor for under the dash or an unpluged or moved wire form under the steering wheel. what should i be looking for ? |

Re: oil presure gauge went crazy
if this is an xj, the oil pressure sending unit is just above the oil filter. 25 bucks at your local parts store. These connectors occasionally get dinged up when changing the oil. i would check there first. maybe wiggle and clean the connector.

Re: oil presure gauge went crazy
If the Gauge is off-scale high and reading at 3:00, there is an open. It might be the gauge, wire, a connection or the sensor. Shorting the wire to ground at the sender should give you a zero reading on the gauge. I have used a 12v test light at this same point--Dim light and a mid-scale reading.
Most likely you have a loose or dirty connection, at the sensor, or a bad sensor. Mike Quote:

Re: oil presure gauge went crazy
YEAH! DON'T GO BUY A NEW SENSOR YET!!! The connector on my oil sender is crap and it is always coming loose (usually right after I change the filter) which causes the guage to peg. I go out mess with the connector and it starts working again. Try that first...
