problem starting max

Hi, i have a 98 maxima, everything was running fine the day before and there were no signs of trouble or anything, then this morning when i went to start it the car cranked up but died right after. the car started up and rpms began to rose, but it died right after. the air bag, brake and battery lights came on. i tried starting it over and giving it some gas but the oil pressure light came on as well when that happened and the car shaked and died again. it was colder and raining this morning, but i don't think the cold had to do with it since it starte fine before in cold weather. i checked my headlights, radio, and everything else was working fine. i had my belts replaced not long ago and had battery and alternator checked and they were working fine. can it be the starter, i am not sure where to check or start. please help, thanks

Of course there are myriad causes, but this is typical with humid air connection.

See my web page for other things to do on your vehicle before other problems surface (they will), and also the Chiltons maintenance manual.

Re: problem starting max

thnks for help, i will have to take a look at them this weekend, car was starting fine the last few weeks in the cold with rain and snow though. are the dash lights suppose to come on when this happens? the same thing happened a few weeks ago when the brake and battery light came on, i thought it was the alternator, but it turned out to be the belts cracked and loose. tnks for help, i hope its not the coil packs.

No connection to dash lights. Check light might come on due to bad combustion.

Alternator worn, belt loose, bad grounding via alternator brackets? (Make a add on gnd wire.)

Handbrake switch, worn brake pads if you have that option. Most people take those pad warn wires off as they tend to blink whenever...

Re: problem starting max

ok, i went through looking over the belts and alternator and they looked fine. i tried restarting it normally today and it wouldn't start, so than i just pushed the pedal all the way in and restarted and rpms shot up really loud and car started. the warning lights went off and car started. im not sure what could be the problem now. i drove it around and it was fine, idle was a little low like around 600 at a stop, but other than that car ran fine. car also started leaking after i stepped on the pedal to start the car. i don't know much about cars, but it was on the left of the battery between engine and battery. it looks pinkish/purple and i think it might be transmission fluid. it leaked quite a lot, about the size of a wallet on the ground. after driving it around and parking it back, i rechecked and there wasn't a leak anymore. i gotta take this car in for a check later this week when i have a chance, this was the second time it wouldn't start up, first time was because the belt cracked and came off though. thanks for help
