Ok guys, clueless girl question, be gentle with me ;)
Im so glad I found this forum first off... heres my question for you
I pulled through a set of lights today and as I got thru the lights the car died, I managed to coast into a parking lot and tried to restart the car. It started, and then died in about 15 seconds. It continues to turn over, start and run for 15 seconds, but does nothing when you hit the gas, then it dies. Any ideas? Im thinking it might have something to with the throttle cable. Thanks so much guys! Oh! I should mention 1ts a 1987 626 LX 2.0L turbo 5 speed thanks again |

Re: Ok guys, clueless girl question, be gentle with me ;)
could be lots of things.... did it run ok before that?? Let's start with the easy stuff, when was the last tune up done?? also need to check the fuel filter, needs to be changed around every 10,000 mi. could be fuel pump pressure or the computer, or and air cleaner clogged... that would have to be pretty bad though.. Also the turbo ,if there are laeks around the air system could cause a series of weird problems.. hope this helps some. Later,, Mark.

thanks for your response Mark... in answer to your questions... it ran great before hand, Im actually surprised about how well it did run for its age, the last tune up was done a couple months ago after some twit stole it and took it for a joyride and parked it 2 blocks away, I had it taken in immediately from impound to ensure that no damage was done to it internally, so it checked out ok there.
I appreciate your suggestions and will look into it today after I get it home... if anyone else has any ideas, I would love to hear them. |

Re: Ok guys, clueless girl question, be gentle with me ;)
ok so we changed out the fuel filter a couple days ago it was pretty nasty and put in fuel injector cleaner to help out the injectors, no doubt by the gross stuff coming out of the fuel filter they were a little gummed up too, however the problem isnt fixed...
the next thing we are looking into is a new ecm, because my hubby feels something may have been shorted or something when we got a boost the other day after having to stop abruptly for a car that was skidding across the ice and couldnt stop as well there is some play in the throttle cable that wasnt there before so we're gonna replace that too otherwise things are still at the status quo with the car, turns over, runs for a few seconds and dies... |

Re: Ok guys, clueless girl question, be gentle with me ;)
Ialso had a similar problem with a bmw. found the fuel pump kept shutting down. was caused by e.c.m. Replaced e.c.m. was expensive, but was the problem. Also when Ever getting a jump, turn heater and four ways on.(helps absorb voltage spike) plus when getting a jump Always have someone positioned to pull the positive jumper off your battery the second your car starts. stops back feed voltage spike to e.c.m. hope this helps. Later Mark.

thanks so much Mark, you are the second person to confirm for me it could be the ecm, we have it on order for Wednesday arrival, was a bit pricey for the Mazda too, I was suprised (well sorta, everything seems to be pricey when the car is older) *fingers crossed that it works* will keep everyone posted... and thank you for the info on boosting, I didnt know it could do that kinda damage

Re: Ok guys, clueless girl question, be gentle with me ;)
Sorry, been out for awhile. If your going to work on the car, to save money, then the b3est money spent is a repair manual on the car.. Can pick up at any auto parts store. Most are haynes or chilton manuals. They are very helpful. They don't explane everything, that's why we come here,HA,Ha. Buut they do help. Later.. Mark.

Does your 626 hava computer under the driverside seat? I think that I have it missing but I am not sure and no one can seem to answer the question when I ask. since you have the same car. I hope you can answer the question. Thank You.
