Post G20's replacement: The G35?

For those who cruise the other boards out there, you probably already know about this. As you see here, nissannews.com has announced the G20's replacement scheduled for next spring: The G35.

But what's most interesting to note, is that this G35 is acctualy the next generation Skyline sedan, a car which was unvieled in Japan yesterday (June 18th). The next G series will now break its connection with the SE-R family as it will be a 3.5L V6, much like the '02 Altima and '02 Maxima/I35.

Expect at least 240hp, as seen in the Altima. Other interesting tidbits is the platform will be shared with the next Z car and the next GT-R, it'll be RWD, and have a 52/48 balance. A full multi-link suspension setup produces what Nissan claims to be the "best handling car it's ever produced."

Here are a buncha photos taken from Nissans website in Japan, these are all of the JDM car (Skyline) so don't be surprised when you see the RHD and the Nissan badges. You can view the whole presentation here, though it'll be in Japanese.

It'll still be Infiniti's entry-level car, but is expected to be classed with the IS300 and 3-series, so expcet a high 20s price tag.

Not a GT-R, but just a simple Skyline. GT-R is supposedly getting it's own model, branching off from the Skyline name.

YUK

About the only thing going for it will be the 3.5L V6.

Between this and the New Primera in Japan just released, it makes me want to keep mine even more and not trade up.

I donno I think it looks pretty good. If they don't offer a 6 spd manual it would be a real shame. I'll NEVER buy an automatic or a manumatic car. No clutch, no sale.

Thumbs down

Those stereo mounted audio controls are not very appealing. Those of you that are Nissan buffs may recognize the look . . .

That styling is reminiscent of the 80's Nissans . . . The stock radios all had that shiny silver finish with crude squarish controls . . .

Mistaken Identity?

The images presented by Kris94G20 are shots of the current V35 Skyline recently available in Japan. They are powered by the VQ25DD, VQ30DD, and even possibly a VQ35DD, direct injection powerplants. As of today, the V35 is available in rear/all-wheel drive. Whether or not it will appear in the States as the replacement 'G' remains a mystery; everything you have heard so far is a rumor/possibility, according to press data. Some say this next Skyline will fit into the Infiniti line-up as an all new model, while others believe that it will directly replace the G20. Nissan has been utilizing the concept XVL chassis for several models, including this new Skyline and the upcoming U.S. Z-car and Altima.

Internationally, the Primera has always been known as Nissan's premier compact front wheel-drive sports sedan. Why would they change now?

There is a new Primera available in Japan. Wouldn't Nissan want it's luxury counterpart to bond to tradition and use the next Primera for the next G20?

A corporate shot of the new Primera.
BE ADVISED: This new model was finished before the Renault purchase. Therefore, this design does NOT have european influence, even though it seems to do so. Note the unusual yet corporate-like nose end:

This topic has been beaten up and down to death and we will most likely never know what car it will be until it actually comes out.

If Nissan keeps the Primera/G20 connection, then yes it will be the P12, or possibly the restyled european P11 (P11 144 series)

However, I have not heard any rumors of the P12 coming here. Nissan/Infiniti, as well as dealers, salesmen, and the press have all hinted that the car will be rear wheel drive and a little less sluggish. The car will be aimed at competing more with the BMW/Lexus buyers..

Whether the car will be the V35 Skyline (blah, and no this is NOT the Skyline we all love. The Skylines as we know them will know have a new name labeled just "GTR", and this "V35 Skyline" is now a family car.) or the XVL concept (growing on me) will remain a mystery. Until the car is actually on the showroom floor, even what a dealer tells you is all here say.

Because Infiniti doesn't want any front wheel drive cars in it's line up. All new Infiniti cars will be RWD.
