Engine warning light

In my grand am there is an cluster light than comes on which looks like a picture of an engine, it has only been comming on lately. It flashes on for a few seconds than it goes away, I checked the owners manual and it shows no such warning light there are no words above it just shows a picture of an engine. What does this light mean? Please help.

Re: Engine warning light

It means that a code has been stored in the memory of your ECM. Someplace like AutoZone may be able to pull the code for you, depending on year model of your Grand Am. Need to find out why the light is coming on. There's something amiss under the hood, even if you don't notice the car running any different.

What year grand am? I don't recall any years of the grand am to have that icon on the dash, they've always had the Service Engine Soon Light. Double check your book and make sure it's not a different warning light or get the computer read to see if there are any codes stored

It's a 1994 Grand am never seen that light before service manual shows a totally different dash cluster. I will have to get this in and see what is stored. I will write back when I know in case others come across this problem. Thanks for the swift response everyone, was really surprised.

Thinking about it now I've seen that happen the car has one dash the book has another( my fathers car for instance), I noticed this confusion more so because of the difference in the cars from Usa and canada, The canadian version sometimes the dash is set up is slightly different then the U.S. or they put the wrong manual in the car.
