Looking for help from the experts here. I have a 95 Jetta III, 2.0L, man trans, with about 95K mi. It's been a great running car until a few weeks ago. It starts great but will not idle without holding the idle up. After the engine warms up it will idle fine. Also, when it's cold the engine runs great, but once it gets warmed up it misses when held at constant speed or when slightly increasing speed. If you really step on the accelerator then it seems to do OK. But, when you let off and resume a steady speed it seems to miss again.
It seems like this may be temperature related because of how it acts. I have checked for vacuum leaks and put new plugs in. Can a bad O2 sensor cause this? Any help/advice is greatly appreciated. |

Re: 95 Jetta III idle problem & missing once warm
I'd start with a good look for vacuum leaks.

I had same problem for months with my 94 jetta (133k) . Over 6 months my mechanic replaced plugs, wires, o2 sensor, fuel filter, exhast that was leaking , oil pump, oil pressure sender, thermostat, ignition wires, air filter and more. But nothing helped. He sent me to another mechanic who replaced coil assembly and relay and that solved the problem. Good luck
