2001 Ls8

Im new this forum, and have my first questions. I've been reading alot about the problems everyone is having with there ls. My question is, what year ls is all this stuff happening to? I just bought a 2001 LS8 and am not looking forward to my LS being in the shop so much. Does the 2000 have more issues than the 2001 or 2002?

I think you are just as likely to see the CoP and Valve cover gasket issues as everyone else. Maybe the transmission to. The beep problem is not very consistent.

Re: 2001 Ls8

The valve cover problem is what generally causes the COPs to fail and the valve covers/gaskets were redesigned for '03.

Window regulator problems can also be enjoyed periodically by everyone with a build date from Feb '00 through to the mid '02 model year.

Transmissions issues are all over the board, with some folks only days apart in build date having vastly different experiences. Even '03 isn't immune from this one... '04 seems to be doing quite well.

Droning and other noise issues plague some of the early ('00) owners (not me, thankfully).

Heated seat failures seem to be more prevalent in the early years ('00-'01), too. In '03 they changed the system totally, and I haven't heard of any real issues there...

What else is common?...

Re: 2001 Ls8

it really is pot luck. Just have realistic expectations... nothing is perfect, well except beer, and MTBF ratings are based on controlled test conditions so everyones experiences will likely be different.

You will enjoy driving the car and caring for the car. Most aircraft have a 4 hour in shop to 1 hour in air ratio. Of course they got that whole defy gravity thing going on but still cars see a slew of operating conditions.

At the end of the day you go to bed with the LS Grin in the morning you are up early to reinstall the LS Grin.

Re: 2001 Ls8

Just FYI...MTBF= Mean Time Between Failure or "how often it's gonna break"
