Cold Air Intake/Service Engine Light
Can someone please help.
I have a 2003 GTS Eclipse. I installed a cold air intake system awhile back and all was good, no probs. Now I'm having probs after having a bypass valve installed. My rpms jump around like mad on a cold engine and yesterday I had to restart my car 3 times and now the Service Engine Light is on. Can anyone relate or help me out? I read back on some old posts and so far i've gotten this info: 1) Check all fluids 2) Check gas tank lid 3) Check Temp sensor 4) Reset ECU (not sure if that applies for Mitsu) Thank you |

Re: Cold Air Intake/Service Engine Light
try resetting the ECU. disconnect the positive battery cable for about 15 mins. reconnect then start the car and let idle for about 10 mins. that might work for you

Re: Cold Air Intake/Service Engine Light
Thanks so much for your input. I'll give that a try!
Ok, I did what you suggested and the Service Engine Light is gone. Wooohooo! But I still have the problem of the rpms jumping high/low. After idleing for 5-10 minutes rpms sit at 1000-800. Is this just something I have to live with, is this normal? Last edited by sabojonii; 01-06-2005 at 02:07 PM. |

Re: Cold Air Intake/Service Engine Light
so your saying, at idle the rpms are between 800-1000? also make sure the breather hose on the top of the intake doesnt have any kinks in it.

Re: Cold Air Intake/Service Engine Light
are there any Silicon hoses running to your intake? if so make sure they're clamped down and not leaking (use a hose clamp)

Re: Cold Air Intake/Service Engine Light
Ya, it idles at mostly 900-1000.
I took a peeky at the hose and it looks as if its not snug with the engine connection. Thanks for all your help guys!! |

Re: Cold Air Intake/Service Engine Light
Did you move your throttle cable when you installed your intake? That might have somthing to do with. Your Throttle Positioning Sensor(TPS) might being going bad as well. Go to Vauto Zone, and have them read your OBD II. They should do it for free. Then call up Mitsu w/ the code, and see what they say.

Re: Cold Air Intake/Service Engine Light
mine sits at 2k when its cold, lowers to 1.5 after running for a minute and then 900 while the heaters on, its at 600 at true idle w/ nothing else running it jsut takes a while
