Wifey's discovery

So, like many of us here, I have a wife that just doesn't understand what I see in cars. She's happy driving our little reliable workhorse Saturn around. If it gets her where she's going and never gives her trouble and gets 40mpg, she's happy. She dislikes it when I drive in a spirited manner with her in the car (she gets motion sickness easily). It's difficult to defend the expenditures that come with hot-rodding and racing.

So... New Years, coming home from the party we went to, I was too sleepy to drive, so she's driving the WRX and I'm in the passenger seat. We pull up to a red light and realize we're in the wrong lane. The ricer Prelude next to us with the booming subwoofer and the glowing windshield washers takes off when the light turns green and my wife is unable to get into the correct lane because of traffic. At the next light, however, she's determined.

Now, she's been driving a manual for years after I insisted that automatics were the devil. She revved that WRX up, and the Prelude did the same (both of us with aftermarket exhausts, so it sounded cool.... RumblerumbleROOAR from the WRX and BuzzzBWEEEE from the Honda). Light turned green, wife drops the clutch like a pro, and my two ladies (the wife and the WRX) *smoked* the wheel-spinning Prelude, got over into the correct lane, and got on the on-ramp for the highway. She turns to me, giggling, and says, "That was fun!" Maybe it will be easier to talk her into letting me get some R-comp tires now...

Re: Wifey's discovery

Hahaha, its great when the lady gets a kill in for you. Soo, you were too "sleepy" to drive, huh? I hate it when I fall asleep on new years....

Oh come on...I could see this coming from a mile away...your wife got into the wrong lane intentionally so she could wring out the WRX while you wouldn't suspect a thing...she's DEFINITELY a member of a midnight club somewhere, you just don't know it yet ....that's a good kill though, the guy in the 'lude must have been pissed.

Re: Wifey's discovery

No performance mods on the WRX other than the exhaust. I can't do anything else to it without losing my "stock" status in SCCA. And yes, the WRX wagon is exactly the same as the sedan, except the sedan can fit a wider aftermarket tire under the fenders because of the flares. When I get wider tires, though, I'm going to roll the fenders anyway. The sedan also has an ever-so-slightly larger rear sway bar. Track times between the two are really close. I got the wagon because it can go fast on the weekends and haul lots of crap on the weekdays. Plus, you're right, it looks better than the sedan.

That's awesome, nice kill for your wife. My girl only asks that 1. I don't kill us, and 2. I don't get pulled over. Not too stingy. I do sometimes get the silent treatment though. We all know what that's like.

Re: Wifey's discovery

my question is...have you driven the saturn lately? and have you checked on her expenditures to see if it isn't a turbocharged beast??
at least if she's out late some nights you know she's racing.

Re: Wifey's discovery

I thought about turbocharging it once upon a time, so all the links for it are still on my computer... Maybe that's what "girls' night" means...
