Turbo information and help
I have 86 Mr2 NA MK1 of course. Bone stock 4age engine. I just purchased a T3 turbo, bare turbo. I am going to list the specs, I need someone turbo savvy to help me with a little information I need.
T3 45trim(21 lbs/min) Turbo Stage III wheel, .42 A/R COMPRESSOR, .48 A/R TURBINE 2.36" inlet diameter and 2" outlet TURBINE WHEEL: T04B 45 trim (21lb/min) EXDUCER: 1.91" MAYOR : 2.48" COMPRESSOR WHEEL : EXDUCER: 1.86" MAYOR : 2.36" Ok, hopefully that will help whomever understand my turbo. The sheet that came with the turbo states it can run 25psi easily. It is a brand new turbo. I need to know what the HP output of the turbo can possibly be at what PSI rating. With the age and small size of the engine I dont believe I want to run 25psi, that would be pushing it WAY too much. I am buying the aluminized piping off of JC Whitney for the intake piping. I need to know, does this turbo have internal wastegate, if so what's its handling psi? If not, what size wastegate is recommended for the T3. Knowing the size of my engine and the turbo I'm putting on should I use a water jet right after the intercooler to cool the air further, and are the factory fuel injectors sufficient for this size turbo? If not, I am sure I need a FMU, (any suggestions), and I think the oem FPU should be ok. I have a modification for the MAP sensor to add a bypass valve so that the turbo pressure doesnt trip the MAP sensor. Right now the only for sure setup I have is, the Turbo, and the engine. Any information that can be provided will be greatly appreciated. I do not think the engine would handle it, but I was thinking of twin charging this car in the future. If that comes the case, I'd possibly swap the block for a 4agze or a 7afe(as Ray Hall did), but I dont want the factory 4agze supercharger, I need something a little more, enthusiastic. Thanks for any help and ideas guys. Toy o Ta Mr2 Owner I love to see those Camaros and 350 S-10s in my rear view on those long windy roads. NSH |

Re: Turbo information and help
first off, good luck with your 4agte project!!!
that'll be really cool when it's done. as for how much it can handle... take it to a dyno when you are done.

Thanks
I hope to make it a good one, although I think my biggest lack is the knowledge of the performance of the Turbo. I plan on pushing the envelope a little on the engine, but I know the stats for Turbos' such as the GT 25 290hp model, and such. Does anyone know what the moderate to max hp that this turbo can possibly push?

Re: Turbo information and help
the max hp of the turbo might not be the same as what your engine can handle... that's why dyno tuning it is so important, you can get a readout of how far you can safely push it. it might be more than you thought, it might be less... just make sure they don't lean it out too much.

Re: Turbo information and help
My car is currently in WV, there isnt a dyno close at all, it wont be until I take it back to TX that I could get it dynoed. So I guess I'll just have to put it together, and set the timer and wastegate for say 16 psi and run from there to see how it will do. That itself may be too much for the engine, but if I blow it, I will be ok. If anyone can think of any information that you can add or suggest, I'd appreciate it.

Re: Turbo information and help
id start off at like 5 psi 16 will probably kill it without some engine work and tuning

Re: Turbo information and help
Yeah right now, I'm talking to Dan right now about engines, he is helping me plan out a 3sgte swap. I'm looking for 250+ hp, so, I just need to figure out how much psi to push on the turo to get around 250 without overworking the engine. I like the stats on his Mk1.5 so I'll plan a little around that idea. Unless someone can come up with another good plan. I still would like to do something a little unique, and still get the power out of it. Thanks guys.
