Re: caravan heat(lack of)

Im having the same troubles.on my 90 chev 1/2ton i had this problem and then i flushed the core.that heater cooks me out of the cab now.I talked to a mechanic prior to flushing the truck and he stated that if the heat is still poor after flushing then core replacement is probable.these are his words.all i can tell you is flushing worked on my truck and i have not done it on the 96 caravan yet.if it works ill post to you.waiting for warmer weather.

Re: caravan heat(lack of)

Yeah, that's what I found on my 88 Caravan. I had no heat, I flushed the core, and a bunch of little rubbery blue chunks came out, it looked like someone had gone overboard with RTV when installing a new thermostat, and bits of it had gotten into the core. I tried flushing in the normal direction first, and couldn't get anything to go through the core at all. Then I back flushed it, and all these blue chunks came out. Heater has worked fine ever since.

I have a similar problem with my 89 Caravan 3L.I had the motor running and very care fully looseneed one of the hoses going to the heater core. There was coolant .OK. Then I tightened this hise and went on to the other and there was coolant hee too, BUT the flow was very limited but on accelerating this flow was alittle more.I stopped the engine released the pressure in the radiator by taling off the rad cap.Removed both the hoses and blew air through the heater core.Everythis good so far.Traced the hose to the block that supplies the water to the heater and found a lot of crap there. Shoved a hanger in to the block (Pipe) and alot of crap came out.Replaced the hose and the heater works better. Worth trying!!
