93 laser 1.8 has no power
well i bought this laser for my daughter. her first car, and i liked it to! anyway its a 1.8 auto. in neutral it seams pretty peppy. but in gear its a turd. i thought it might bee the trany. it shifts fine but when theres stress on it, it will down shif and seems like you dont go any where. it has passed all the emision laws. please help!!! thanx terry

You bought the right car with the wrong engine. I don't know if an engine swap is practical for those things and it sounds like you think there is something wrong with it. There might be but I doubt it. Put some minor mods on it if there isn't. That or sell it.

yeah, that car is not really a fast car. it is a 1.8L Auto. Then, I assume that it is not a turbo either. It really doesnt have the power you think it does.

Don't expect much from the 1.8l motor, it only produces 92hp and 105lb/ft torque. I would assume that it has great gas millage, and requires less maintenace than the 2.0l motor. Should be fine as a first car, my first car was a 1.5l Dodge Colt and I wasnt complaining.
