96 cam. is it worth it?

There is a 96 camaro RS in the local paper. Says its starts up and runs and drives good, and has low miles. But it has been in a wreck and needs a whole new front clip. It said that the hood MAY be ok, so if thats true then it may not be that bad up front. Anyway, they have it listed as 1,000 OBO. So how hard, or how expensive would getting a front clip for this be? Also, are the RS camaro's still v8's and are they good cars?

hmm, if you can get hooked up with body work, and if the engine is in OK condition, id say maybe, cuz i bet the alignment is all off and the frame might be bent, so gotta watch out for irregular tire ware down the road. but for the RS, i dunno if its a 6 or 8, i have an 89 rs and its a 6, but then again its an 89, i dunno what the 96 has to offer.

not positive but pretty sure that fourth gens all rs had the 6 and in my opinion i got a camaro for the v8 muscle car im not sayin u cant build a 6 up a lil but u can get alot of cars w/ a 6 cylinder why rebuild a recked one w/ just a v6 in it, but really its up to u but just keep in mind body work is usually the most expensive work to be done on a car and if by the end of the whole thing u say u spent 5000 w/ the cost of the car which is cheap for extensive damage u could have bought a good shape v8 third gen... i only paid 2000 for mine and it was only a 305 but still a v8 and w/ all the work ive put in it a bunch of small shit, and a posi i still havent got to five grand spent yet

that RS is the 3.8 liter v6. See if there are any local car clubs you can get with, or people who part out cars. I know you can potentially get a front clip for like 30-40 bucks. definately check the car out yourself first tho.

I wouldn't even consider it. If it had a v8, then maybe. Save your money and put it toward something that isn't going to be a headache.

front clips, or as it sounds in this case, front bumper covers are not hard to replace. neither are fenders if it even goes back that far. yes it is a six cylender. and for less than a grand, say, another 600 worse case senario to have the damage fixed, and you will have a nice daily driver, but nothing that will own the road. so just dont dilude yourself.

thanks for the replies yall. I will probably call him soon and find out where the car is and go look at it. As far as owning the road, i know it wont do that, but it will get better gas mileage than my bronco, .

I doubt all it needs is the bumper/bumper cover. It probably needs bumper, fenders, hood, and headlights. I will find out and let yall know.

lol, well at least you know why youre getting it, my brother has a bronco as well, 1973 vintage, and had to buy an accord because of gas prices.

shoot, if u want good gas mileage, get a little CRX, takes like 15 bucks of gas a week and thats it!!

yeah and they are also rolling tin can coffins, you couldnt pay me to drive one, ive never seen one of those in an accident where someone didnt die, and i dont mean get hurt, i mean dead, no sir, i wont even ride in one of those things.

Well not really wanting 50 mpg, but something better than 10 would be nice, lol. Hell im sure the v6 camaro will get around 20 so that would be nice, lol. Plus if i want to be one of the kings on the road, well the rents have a 300zx .
