which clutch for zc bolted to dx tranny?

after having my head gasket blow on my d15b2 with mpfi, ive decided to get a zc. i thought i saw a web page quite a while ago that said something about the 88 tranny's haveing diferent # of splines or something. i did a search but found nothing. so im asuming it will bold right up. Anyway! should i get a new cluth for a 88 dx tranny or some other kind? thanks.

88 trannys have 21 splines whereas 89-00 have 20. Also, the diameter of the 88/89 discs are 200mm, 90-00 are 212mm.

Re: which clutch for zc bolted to dx tranny?

yes...you can find aftermarket clutches for that tranny...search on ebay.
Believe it or not, the ZC tranny has 21 splines as the USDM 88's did. (it's a JDM thing). The 88 was the first year the 2G crx was introduced to the US so it was still using some of the same JDM parts such as the suspension and tranny.
so, buy a zc clutch...it will work.

well, he has an 88 dx tranny so instead of trying to find some "jdm zc clutch" i think he should just stick to getting the 88 civic clutch, its the same thing. And also, are you positive that all zc trannys are 21 spline?? I see where it says that on the link you posted, but it says all integra's 86-89 as the zc. You think it might be talking about usdm d16a1?

Re: which clutch for zc bolted to dx tranny?

well i went to get a dohc zc, but they where sold out so i went for sohc zc $500 canadian. I spent all day today swap out the old one and installing the new and the f*ckin thing has no compresion, and i told that guy "the thing better have compresion" and he assured me it did. now i have to take out the engine tommorw and wait till monday to get another one. i used a new dx clutch though. we left the tranny in and it was a piece of cake for the most part. 2nd time should go quiker though.

Nope, positive. The ZC clutch is the same thing as the USDM 88 versions. Just slightly larger. Search on ebay....sometimes you'll find them listed like this "JDM zc clutch, fits 88-91 ZC transmissions and 88 civic/crx"

It's a JDM thing. I think all the JDM 88-91 Dseries tranny's are 21 spline. Like the USDM 88 tranny....it's because the 88 version (4G) was the first year it was made year and not many changes were made from the JDM version...which is why alot of things are different in the 88 than any other year..such as the JDM suspension.
