Question Temperature Rises

I fixed the anti freeze leak with LT's help but then the bloody thing wanted to leak some more so i dumped stop leak in and that seemed to fix it but its all back in the reserve tank now. The question is is it normal to run at 220 with the heater on i just started to notice this. I have replaced the thermostat back in August.

Re: Temperature Rises

You may have some air in the system, or possibly a clogged heater core. But I will tell you, that stop leak crap is going to make things worse. Fix the source of the leak if you want to things right. If you hava a rad leak, either replace it or re-core it. If it's a bad head gasket, fix it, waterpump, fix it... Stop leak is not a solution unless you're just driving 5 miles to fix the actual problem...

Re: Temperature Rises

I wouldn't put stop leak in anything I planned on keeping. Did you use a stop leak compatible with antifreeze? If you used one that requires you to remove all the antifreeze first it is possible that you didn't get all the antifreeze out and that will clog things up real good.

Did you install a new non Ac Delco Rad cap?

Re: Temperature Rises

no i thought that the cap was good but was thinking about changing it because my oil cap is getting bad to so ill change them and see
the stop leak was compatible i checked that before i bought it
with the leak i moved the hose back and it leaked more so i just kept a fiddlin with it and when put the stop leak in it stopped because it seemed to be screening through the very beginning of the hose but thats stopped

Am I to understand that you had/have a leaking hose and you used stop leak instead of replacing the hose?

How do you know that the cap is good?

You are getting air into the system and I can assure you that is probably where the air is getting in. The stock caps have poor sealing gaskets.

Also, I hope you didn't introduce stop leak for a leaking hose. That would be pretty stupid.

Re: Temperature Rises

No i used that for the other block and such because i did not want to go through the hassle of replacing another hose the 4 th one in 3 months because there not the same length at autozone or advance autoparts because i have it plastic tied down to the pulley bracket blazerlt had me move it back and tighten it down thats what i did it ended up leaking worse than before so i was out there in the below 0 weather 3 weeks ago fumblin around till now that its warm i dont see any fluid in there but there was like a film on the underside of the hose/

Re: Temperature Rises

Don't have you hoses tied down the the engine, you will be flexing the hose and pulling it back.

Re: Temperature Rises

When what rubs through? Did you put the net sleeving back on the new hose when you replaced the old one?

Take a pic of where the hose is leaking and where you have the hose clamp now.
