Ecu

The ecu on a manual is different from that of an automatic right? Is it different for a gsx than a gst?

Re: Ecu

No, according to DSMLink's website it doesn't matter what car you get it from. 5-speed, automatic, AWD or FWD. For the automatics there is a seperate tranny control computer.

Re: Ecu

it doesnt matter IF you are getting dmslink or a chip. if you are staying stock then you need the right ecu. the fuel trims, timing maps, injectors etc.. are different but if you get a chip they change all of those anyway

Just out of couriosity, why would it matter? As long as he didn't get one from a gs. The motor is the same so the trims, etc would be the same.

Re: Ecu

Auto 1Gs use 390cc injectors, where all other DSMs run 450s stock. So you would end up with AFR being way off. The only difference I'm aware of between fwd and AWD is the speed limiter, and that may only be a 2g thing.

If the limit is supposed to be under 155, it must be a 2g thing.

I am sorry I wasn't specific. I have a 96 gst, so I know that a 95 or sooner won't work, but I found a computer from a 96 gsx and wondered if that would work.It is an automatic.

Re: Ecu

That will work fine. Another thing to note is that the 95-96 ECUs are the same (aside from the whole EPROM thing). If you swap between them and the later 2Gs, the firing order changes (the phase of the CAS signal to be more correct) and you have to swap plug wires around. The only difference between 2g auto and manual trannys that I know if is the input for the park/nuetral safety switch, which manual tranny cars make use of for the sutter box clutch switch Yes, should be interchangeable for a 2g.

Re: Ecu

There is no difference between 1G awd/fwd jdm/usdm ecu's are there? I know a few guys who have done the swap and they have had no issues. Is there really underlying issues, or no?

Re: Ecu

The "JDM" ECUs may have the code to actuate the Cyclone manifold, but I think there is no other difference.

Re: Ecu

Nah, it will just activate a solenoid that doesn't exist.

Re: Ecu

SImilar to situations like adapting the 2g ECU to the 1g car. The 2g has WAY more outputs/inputs, they jsut dont get used. Now, the ECU may be wondering whats going on with those inputs, but this is typically done with DSMlink so you just tell the ECU to not look at those inputs and stop being a pussy/drive it on. Lando already answered the question, just thinking out loud
