Blower motor

The blower motor on my 2002 taurus stopped working. I have checked the fuses they are fine. I also swapped out the relay and still not working. I can hear it switch from defroster to vent and so on, just no air movement. There was a little squeaking coming from the fan earlier in the day.

Update to problem

When I started the car this morning the blower still was not working. Looked under the dash where the blower is and gave it a good hit with my hand and it started working. On my 45 min. drive to work it started to make a whining noise. The noise level decreased a little before I parked the car. We will see what is up when I leave this afternoon.

blower motor problems too

We began having the same problem with the blower motor this week. I checked the fuses to no avail as well. Please send me an email if you figure out the problem. If I determine the problem I will let you know. Thanks and good luck.

Wink

I had to replace my '98's blower motor last year.
One of it's bearings was bad.
It started out just working on High, then it just worked whenever it wanted too.
The replacement from Autozone fit OK, but only came with bare wires & I had to cut the factory connector off the wiring harness.

It's great to have a defroster again.

The OEM motor was pressed/crimped together so rebuilding it wasn't a solution.
Be carefull removing the old blower wheel and you can reuse it on the new motor.
It was easy to get to on my '98, behind the black underdash trim panel on the far right.

Re: Blower motor

Also check the screws holding it on, make sure they're tight. That was a problem on my older car. Tightened them up and it was cleared up. As far as it working only in High, I'm no expert, but it sounds to me like maybe a switch problem. Do still check the motor though.

Re: Update to problem

We broke down and carried the car into the Ford dealer today. The problem was fixed by replacing the blower motor and resistor.

The technician said there is a Ford technical service bulletin regarding this problem in which an air vent lets water in and allows it to get down to the motor and short out the resistor. Part of the repair was to make a little "hat" over the vent to divert the water from going down the vent to keep the problem from reoccurring.

This problem was covered under my bumper to bumper extended warranty.
