Regular Beam lights won't come on 2000 metro.

I have the stalk on the left hand side for the lights, the circuit for the low beam/tag lights does not work.

The high beams do work that's what i've been driving with forever...any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Do your daytime running lights function?
[On my '96 with a broken headlight switch - similar to yours - they only work when the e-brake is off]

My daytime running lights do not function and i checked all the fuses under the dash and they appeared to be okay.

are you sure the bulbs are good, both low beams could be burned out, also several relays and fuses for lights under hood, relays are all the same for the lights, might try swapping them around if fuses are good

I just had a similar problem on my 97 Metro. Headlights wouldn't come on when switched multifunction stack to 'headlights'. Thought it might be a fuse but they were all good; heard relays clicking under hood box so I knew the relays (and the multifunction stack) were good. The daytime running lights came on so I knew it wasn't a problem with the bulbs. My only guess was a problem between the headlight (not daytime running light) relay and the bulbs.

How did I fix it? I didn't--the problem went away by itself after ~ 2 weeks (wish they all worked out like this). I'm curious to know what it might be, though. Thanx...

OK this my be outdated a bit but I thought I'd put the info out there.
Regarding the metro lights: Mine was just doing the same thing, I found that when I kicked the car out of frustration from the driver side the headights came back on. This is my recommended technique for dealing with metros. HOWEVER, they went out again after 1 day so I went to another site and found someone who had this same problem; fuses check out all over, clicking noise under hood etc. They recommended checking the wiring under the steering wheel where there are a couple yellow wiring boxes, one of these is for the headlights and in my case some of the connections were crusty, I cleaned them and VOILA! Headlights work again. Yea, Lot o' peeps make fun of the Metro, but I filled up yesterday, and was delighted to find I was getting 43.1 mpg. At 2.75+ per gallon and a 7 gallon tank I'm laffin all the way to the gas station! Laters!
