break out the drill and put a hole in your firewall, run the wire under the carpet. take out the stereo and run some rca jacks under the carpet to the trunk.

Re: Getting power to an Amp.
sorry I missed this thread earlier
for the power wire, there are 2 unused grommets that you can use. One is on the driver's side near the clutch, there are 2 ways to find it. You can find it from the inside of the car and shove something like a clothes hanger through, which you can then find from the engine bay and use to pull your power wire through, or you can jack up the front of the car, pull of the driver's side wheel and plastic wheel well, and you should see the grommet sitting there. The other one is on the passenger side near the ECU, you'll need to take out the glove box to get to it from the inside. To do that you need to take everything out of the glove box and at the very back corners there are 2 clips that you need to push towards each other (with a screwdriver or something) which will unhook the glove box, then you can just pull it out. Then there are just 2 screws to pull off a little plastic plate, then you need to pull back the carpet and this rubber mat and you should be able to see it hiding up there. If you run the power down the passenger side there is a channel that you can use (a bunch of white plastic rings that you can run the cable through). If you use the driver's side, this channel is already full of stock wiring so you can't use it, just make sure you don't run the wire next to anything sharp which will cut through the insulation over time. For the rcas, you simply need to pull out the head, and then you can run the rcas down either side you want, using the same paths that I described earlier. You should run them down the opposite side of the car as the power wire to eliminate any chance of EMI, so just keep that in mind. I wouldn't run either simply under the carpet, that's the cheap way out and you'll end up with some nice embarrasing lumps under the carpet if you do. Personally, I have a 1/0awg and a 4awg running down the passenger side to a fused distro under the rear seat, and then that splits to 3 4awg which go to each amp and a 14awg which runs the relay for the remotes, and the 3 sets of rcas and remote turn on are running down the driver's side.

The way I've always done them is run the power down the driver side, RCAs down the passenger side. I'd agree with going throw the grommit on the driver side, the problem with drilling holes in the firewall is that there's a risk of grounding out on the metal.
To get the wires to the back just lift up those door sills and tuck the wire between those and the carpet. I did that with a 0 AWG without any visible lumps or troubles. It's all just a matter of finding a groove to fit it in to. |
