Focus Timing belt change

I have a 2000 Focus with a Zetec E. engine. My engine has almost
100,000 km on it and is due for a timing belt change.
Has anyone changed this belt on their own? if so what problems
did they have???
In event of the timing belt breaking is there valve/piston clearance
on the Zetec engine. or does the valves go through the piston??
Am I correct with the 100,000 km change???

Re: Focus Timing belt change

the zetec is non-interferance so you dont have to risk it blowing on u

and a lot of people do the change from 60-80k miles(dunno what the kilo conversion is)

do this too

while your in there have them check the health of the crank seal. and the cam seals, if those are in perfect health your might want to have the water pump replaced, to do all three things at the same time would only cost about 50 bux more rather then doting them later and paying the same amount again, so do the belt, seals, (if semi dry or cracked) and the pump checked. trust me i went thgouth this with my stupid assfire

I had mine changed after 65000 miles after being towed. The timing belt should be changed at 60000 miles.

Most people try to eyeball it, but there are special tools for setting engine timing on those engines. Being one tooth off on one cam makes a huge difference. I think the special tools are a steel bar and a special bolt that cost like 60 bucks (that's why it sucks to be a mechanic...we getta buy all this stuff).

Re: Focus Timing belt change

it's easy on our car. all you gotta do is line it up w/ both lobes from cylender 1 straight out oposite each other and put the belt on... simple. eyeballing it is ok on some cars... not on others. the teeth on the Zetec timing belt are too big for a fuckup unless you're blind.

Timing Belt

I have a 2001 ZX3 with the Zetec engine and I was told that it is an interference, valve bender, engine.

I am in the process of buying a the timing belt and I was told by my guy at Autozone that they list two belts for the ZETEC DOHC engine, one with 99 teeth and one with 129 teeth.

Does anyone know how I can determine what belt I need? The Autuozone guy suggested calling a Ford dealer and giving them my VIN # so they can tell me which belt I need.

Any from you guys will be greatly appreciated.

Tony
