95 740i transmission problem

My tranny wount upshift from 3rd to 4th and 5th other than putting it in M mode and than mowing it back to drive it shifts fine no slipping. it got 125000 miles on it. I was told it needs a new tranny? It however drives well like this and it shifts very nice I was going to replace the tranny filter and put new fluid in it any suggestions ?

thanks Tore

Sometimes new tranny fluid will do miracles. as with the differential, change the fluid on that if you like as well. makes it a lot quieter and cleaner.

I have exactly the same problem - just started today! Nothing untowqrd until then except I thought I noticed that the engine was keen to rise in revs more (say 1000rpm) than normal when accelerating gently. I thought it was clutch slip to begin with, then the upshift from 3-4-5 was slow and the quick fix was to slip into manula mode and do it that way.

Would love to know the solution for sure - if it isn't oil.

BTW, the TIS says that low oil can cause this issue but with no dipstick I haven't done that check yet.

Andy
