O2 Sensor seized in manifold....HELP

My O2 sensor is toast thanks to the lack of heat shield wiring provided by the factory....any how...the old one is so stuck what tools can i use to break it free...

i tried some of that PB penetrant over night and it just did not BUDGE one iota.

i used a O2 socket with an extension and i snapped that like a twig....


any ideas are greatly appreciated.

i had to take my manifold off and put O2 sensor in vise and turn manifold to break it loose. if you have a torch you might try heating manifold up next to sensor

One trick that has worked for me was that I took no old 17mm wrench (I believe that is the size needed for an O2 sensor...) and cut it into two pieces with one third of the length of the wrench on the box-end side. With that length box-end wrench I am able to get onto the sensor and still have enough room rap on it with a hammer (not too hard!) or an 18 extension inch pipe. Give it a try!

heat it till it glows. You can get a small oxy-acetelyne torch at sears for $40. Uses MAPP gas and an oxygen tank.

I used a 1/2 air impact wrench to remove mine about a week ago.

Before you buy a torch, try CRC Freeze Off rust penetrant. It chills the metal, causing the rust to crack. Then the oil pentrates. Now, having said that, here's what the pros do: Since the old sensor is already toast, cut the wire and saw off the top part of the sensor. Then, using a 1/2" impact drive socket and a LONG breaker bar (maybe even with a piece of pipe over the end), place the socket over the remaining hex head. That should give you enough grip and leverage to get it off.

Had the same problem on a Geo tracker O2 sensor.....

Nothing worked except an Air Impact Wrench - and quickly!

If you don't have one, go to a tire shop and ask them to loosen it with their
impact wrenches.

My air compressor and impact tools have saved my Butt many's the time.

Must be the heavy vibration.....

Try heating it before using the impact wrench. take a butane torch along to
the tire shop...
