running rich
i recently replaced the timing chain on a 1994 saturn sl2, everything is back together and now the car is def running really rich, it will idle good and starts up right away. but after like 5-10 seconds it will bog down for some reason and sometimes it will shut off. also the spark plugs are fouling out really, really quick.
compression is good in all cylinders, and it has brand new spark plugs |

Re: running rich
you probably either advanced or retarded your timing i'm guessing you advanced it since you're getting too much fuel. check it out. pm carguy83 for any questions cuz i'm on my friends name

Re: running rich
did you reset the PCM? did you replace the chain before or after is broke? any change in performance? if so, how?(high speed, low speed, accel, ect). i also am wondering if the timing is off. did you follow a how-to of any type? timed like this?- http://www.saturnfans.com/photos/sho...p/photo/15049/
also check the plugs, what brand did you use? gaped at 0.040? correct reach and heat range? |

Re: running rich
it was after the chain had broke, the head was checked and the valves were all good, its timed like in the pic, i used bosch spark plugs, i have yet to drive it yet because i am in the process of doing the brakes

Re: running rich
if those are platuims, swap them out. they are crap, get a nice set of NGK v-power or AC Delco. if that doesn't help, check compression

Re: running rich
even bad compression wouldnt bog it that much... it would have to be a pre existing problem before the chain went. and as for the platinums the +2's and 4's run too hot for our engines... my ngk's are awesome though.

Re: running rich
the TPS code is more common a wiring problem, make sure the connectior is tight, pins haven't backed out. do you have a multimeter?
