so yea, the starter went out, got the car ripped apart already except for the starter, just wondering if anyone has any tricks that they use to take the starter out? other then using long extensions and going in thru the wheel well. its cold outside and i wanna get this out as fast as possible hehe

Re: damn car

start pushing the car and get it rolling as fast as you can.

jump in.

push the clutch in, and shift to 1st.

make sure the key is turned to the running position and let go of the clutch.

after you've started your car, drive south.

take your time changing the starter in 79 degree weather.

second is better... the car has to rev too high in first to try and catch up...

It's 79 feet in Florida??? Doesn't make sense. Here up in WA it is currently 27 degrees and there has been snow for about a week, the roads are clear though. Tonight it is supposed to get down around 10 degrees. I am so glad I get to park in the garage

Re: damn car

By the by... Never try to push start a car in 1st... Unless you just like rebuilding your transmission or something...

Re: damn car

1st isn't normally as strong as 2nd, and putting alot of stress on 1st can cause some serious problems. Besides, if you loose second, you can still start out without bogging out horribly.

Re: damn car

I oush it on 2nd or 3rd (prefer 3rd) on 1st wheels have spin much more in order to spin the engine one time, on 3rd the wheels have to spin much less to spin the engine the same amount as 1st.
This is how I do it:
Turn key to position when all the lights come on.
Put the car in 3rd but have the clutch depressed,
have somebody push you or roll down a hill,
NEVER push and then hop in the car, it is very dangerous, especially if the car is going too fast, I recomend pushing to the hill, then have some body push you off the hill.
Release the clutch slowly so that the engine starts spinning.
Then once the car starts yous suddenly depress the clutch ang give it some gas (If it will stall at low RPMs wrong timing etc.)
Then you put the car in needed gear and migrate south!
