Transmission/t-case info
Hi folks,
Did a quick search, didn't find anything useful. Looking for information on the late-80s/early-90s B-series 4x4 transmissions and transfer cases. From what I understand, the automatic transmission used at some time in that period (prior to the B-series becoming a Ford clone) is a Jatco JR401E transmission, designated R4A-EL by Mazda. Nissan uses the same transmission (designated RE4R01A) in most of their 4x4s over the last 15 years as well. The Mazda 4x4 uses a transfer case with the front output on the right side, while the Nissans have it on the left side. I'm investigating the possibility that the Mazda transfer case might mate to the Nissan version of the transmission. In particular I'm curious about the transmission output shaft specs (spline count, diameter, length) and the shape of the mating surface between the transmission and transfer case. Information about the same on the manual transmission w/ transfer case would also be helpful. Anyone have any insight? Thanks, Brent |
