3rd v. overdrive

I have a 1997 LeSabre,69,000, Should I drive around town in traffic in 3rd instead of overdrive and just use od on the highway?? Is one way or the other better for the transmission??

Re: 3rd v. overdrive

use OD, around town, you probably wont hit overdrive speeds, if you do, and you need some hill climbing power, tap the gas harder for a moment and bring it back, the tranny will kickdown to 3rd and give you the climbing power.

That's true. Used to be a time when driveability in O/D was a big issue in town. With fully computerized transmissions shifting manualy is not a concern unless you are stuck.
