Re: 16 and looking..help

Mustang is much cheaper to fix and easier to make fast. Parts are readily available everywhere for these cars. Not to mention the fact that the Mustang is much quicker to start with.

Re: 16 and looking..help

aslo the aftermarket for the 240 isn't as great and everything is pretty expensive. And your parents are right usually your first car doesn't last more than 6 months.

Re: 16 and looking..help

lol if it was me, im just barely 17 in fact, i would say that you should try to get an iroc-z with the tbi or 4 barrel carbed 350 corvette engine in it. i think the 87 model offered that engine. i would look for one that has rusted out floorboards and maybe bad valve seals (but good rings), then it would be probably about a grand and you can weld in some floorboards and put some undercoating on it for about 150 bucks to bring it to 1150 total and then get the heads redone at 200 max for both or even ive heard of places that will do it for 50 bucks per head if you take them off and bring them in. that would bring it to somewhere under 1500 bucks and there you go. or hell, just throw in a goodwrench 350 and replace a worn out 305 camaro engine for about a grand and youll have about 2 grand into it since you can get a decent 350 engine at autozone for 1000 bucks and up, and thats BRAND SPANKING NEW right there

I personally think the 240SX is more reliable, but what your parents said is really not exactly true. It would actually depend on how many miles the car has and if you go with the mustang it is less unique and ppl tend to beat the motor pretty good too. But it also depends how well YOU take care of the car.

Re: 16 and looking..help

Actually, there's huge aftermarket support for the 240SX and it's becoming a popular trend now (Silvia-driver-wannabe's). I think the 240SX would be more reliable, as a Japanese car, but I do not know the reliability of the Mustang. Despite the Mustang being domestic, I have read that the most recent generation (pre-2005) Mustangs were VERY reliable. The 5.0-liter Mustang is pretty damn fast, though, while the 240SX is pretty damn... mediocre.

If insurance is an issue, go with the 240.

Re: 16 and looking..help

I personally like the 240, 5.0 = faster, 240 = cooler. But, youve been givin enough info about those two, so i'll just throw some more out there.

Probe
3rd Gen Maxima
MKIII Supra
Dodge Omni(or any of the other old Chrysler turbos)
