Question 2000 VR6 Jetta-starting & light problems

Need some help here. I've got problems with my car running when its damp outside. Car starts but chugs and wants to stall, engine light comes on and on occasion-burning smell with some smoke. Next day car starts and runs fine and engine lights off again. Quote for new spark plug wires range from $195-$400CAD wtf?!?!

Secondly when my heat is on, my lights and rpm's are pulsating. When heat is turned off no problems. Its winter I live in Canada-heat is essential

Any ideas, greatly appreciated-thanks guys. Waiting patiently

Have the engine codes read & have the alternator (& diodes) checked.

Sounds like an ignition coil. Every VR6 engine ignition coil goes bad. There about $500 and your symptoms sound like that. Easy way to tell is to spray or pour water on the coil (right side of engine where all the plug wires go to) and see where the arcing is going. VW doesnt manufacturer spark plug wires for 99-03 vr6 2valve engines any more and thats why they are soo expensive to get. Most aftermarket wires dont fit right. The best way to do it is to buy from "neuspeed".
