Speed Grill instalation

ok, I know a few of you have them. I ordered a black chrome street scenes speed grille, im just waiting for it to come in. But a few months ago when i was reading about the instalation on their site, it said you have to cut out the factory grille, and then it is held in with clips.... But the other week when i ordered it, they said it bolts right over the factory one. Im a little confused. I would rather cut out the factory one that just cover it up... it just looks better in my opp. So I guess my question is, for anyone who has one.... how did you install it?

Also... what do i have to remove to take the grille shell off? I got a chrome bowtie too. I want to get it all dont in one shot.

I installed a speedgrille on my z71. it didnt take much time at all. I just layed it over my original grille and it looks fine. If you don;t want to see any of the old grille no matter what, then you can just spray paint the original grille shell black. my buddy did that on his and its impossible to see. its a lot easier than removing the grill shell. i have soem pics of what it looks like if you want to see:

I guess automotive forums had a brain fart or something, because I posted a long post on the matter. Anyway, I'll repost what I originally posted. I have the speed grilles and have had them both over the top of the original grille and cut the original grille out. I really like the look of the speed grille only, personally. I was wondering about your first question, though. Are you asking how to cut the old grille out of the shell or how to remove the entire thing from the truck? The bowtie is a super easy install, it just uses some retaining tabs. Let me know about that first question though, and maybe this time all of this will be posted besides this

yea, i was wondering how to take the whole shell off the truck to get to the bowtie. And if it is worth it to cut out the factory grille or just paint it like Airjam said...

Taking the whole grille out is super easy. There is one bolt at the top of the grille holding it in. You'll first remove the front shroud cover using a flathead to pop out the little things holding them in. After it is removed, you'll now see the top bolt holding it in. When you get this bolt out, look right under the parking lights in the inside corners. You'll see some plastic looking boltheads that a phillips head screw driver will fit in. You turn these clockwise about a half turn. When you do both of these, you can now remove the grille. Just take your time when pulling the grille out, because the outsides are mounted in some holders. Just give it a good tug and it will pop right out. Hope this helps you out, and if you need some pics of everything mentioned above, let me know and I can hook that up for you. Painting it will make it look a ton better, and is a safer method of cleaning it up in the front.
