Engine Swap

I have a 1994 prelude si with an H23 engine in it now. Im looking to put a new engine in my car, but I have a few questions first. What exactly is different if i put in a H22A1 engine, or if i put in a H22A4 for a 98 prelude. I could really use some help on this because i have no idea, and i have tried to look online but found nothing.

Re: Engine Swap

a H22 is a vtec engine, i'm pretty sure they put 190-200hp to the crank. search the forums for 'h22 swap' or something like that, there hav been a lot of threads about exactly what your asking

I just talked to someone on the phone and they said that an H22a doesn't come auto, they told me that the ECU for an H22 is only manual? Is this true?

Re: Engine Swap

h22a1 is the 92-96, h22a4 is 97-02. biggest difference is with the crank journals. h22a4 has larger journals which gives it a little more torque. plus the h22a4 distributor is fixed meaning you cant advance time the ignition timing the old fashion way, gotta get the adjustable cam gears. those are the main differences. others are small stuff like relocation of certain parts. it's rumored that the h22a4 has more power than the h22a1 at high rpm's. and yes h22's do come in a/t but are rare. if you do decide to go with the h22a4 swap into a 94 lude make sure the accessories don't get in the way of other parts i.e. cables, tubing.... like said before, certain parts are in different places between the two h22's. hope this helps!
