Disabling automatic AC with windshield defogger vent in 97 DSM

In my 98 GS Spyder, when the windshield got misty and foggy, I'd turn the vent to the windshield position, and the glass would clear.

In my 97 GST Spyder, when I turn on the windshield vent, my AC comes on automatically, and you cannot turn the damn thing off by pressing the AC button. This is a nuisance. I want to disable this auto-AC-with-windhsield-vent pain in the ass feature. How do I do it?

Re: Disabling automatic AC with windshield defogger vent in 97 DSM

Good luck.....I checked into this a year or two ago and couldn't find anything.

I don't know, maybe someone has figured it out by now (other than removing your a/c).

no, not really. in fact, my eclipse is the only car ive sat in that automatically turns on the ac for the vent without an override.

Re: Disabling automatic AC with windshield defogger vent in 97 DSM

its really annoying, its killing me. i hate that sht. usually, i turn on the vents with warm air and it clears up after a while. theres got to be a way to shut that pos off.

Disable the defroster switch behind the control knob.It is what turns on the AC compressor when you turn the knob to def, def/floor.You can't miss it.
