question: how to paint

hey. This is the first time i tried painting my diecast truck and i didn't know how. So, i ended up taking some all purpose spray paint to spray my truck. When it dried(approx 1 week later), i tried poking it. The result was a big fingernail mark in it. So, can anyone teach me how to paint my truck the correct way?

here. i basically don't know crap about painting. So i really have no idea of what primers, base coats, clear coats, and etc are. if it isn't much trouble, i was hoping that someone would tell me wut those are. I also heard that before u paint, u have to sand it all down. but my mom keeps telling me that if i sand it off or wutever, i will get lead poisining or something.

If your model is several decades old, there is a chance of lead poisoning. But not with any new models, 1985 or newer I believe. I suggestion getting a respirator, or at least a dust mask when sanding paint.

Primers prep the surface...several types, I know of posted this before.

Base coats is the color coat...several types, posted before.

Clear coat is the protector, and makes it shinier....several types, posted it before.

I suggest you just use some Tamiya spray cans. Then I dont have to get into the different types. When you use different types it gets trickier and more advanced.

I'll have a paint tutorial where I explain everything, using Tamiya's paint.

Honestly, I dont much like Duplicolors products. They are fairly cheap, so they are all different type of paint, enamel, lacquers, so on and so forth. And then that can be prone for a real mess.

For modelling, I suggest Tamiya because it goes on smooth, and they are all the same type. Plus pretty good quality.

Stick with the rattle can until you understand the principles of painting. And then think about upgrading.
