Suggest me a car..please!

Due to financial reason, i can't keep my 96 civic. The insurence is too high for me a working college student. Therefore i am forced to sell my car QUICK and buy a different car. So can anyone please suggest a car under 3,500. The things that matter to me are 1.reliablity, 2.speed, and 3.looks. I was thinking about nissan 240's, maybe a crx with swap. But all suggestions are welcome.
thanks.

Re: Suggest me a car..please!

Any car with turbo WILL have higher insurance than your honda. So will the 240sx because it is rear wheel drive and insurance is higher for those (so that includes supra turbo and mr2 turbo) the only car you have pretty much left would be some older honda such as 1995 and below, CRX, nissan sentra, nissan 200sx, maybe an older accord, inf G20 (the older one but im not sure if the insurance will be cheaper)
And since you said that you don't have enough money to keep the honda you will DEFINITELY will not be able to afford a 240sx.

What you need to do is go to autotrader.com, find a car you want for the price you need and get a quote for it with your insurance company.

Re: Suggest me a car..please!

if you're interested, look into a 89-94 maxima. if you shop around you can get one with the DOHC 190hp VG30 for right around what you're looking to spend. my dad actually recently sold his 93 maxima for around $2500 so he could buy a newer one. they're fast and reliable.

Re: Suggest me a car..please!

While reliability might not be at the top for them, Dodge Daytona's are very good for the money. Once you learn how to work on them they are pretty cheap and can get fast easily. Find yourself an 89 turbo 5 speed daytona. You should be able to get one for under $2K in decent shape.

Three mods that you can do for about $100 can have you mid 14 second time slips(provided you can launch decently). Junkyard Intercooler($50, plus pipes let's say another $30), manual boost controller set to 14 PSI ($15 on ebay) and chop off the muffler and stick a straight pipe on ($10). Also if you can replace the Cat with a straight pipe thats about 15 HP right there, the stock cat is extremely restrictive.
At this point however you will probably be around 200 WHP and you will pop the stock headgasket, but a $20 replacement from Mopar Performance and some know-how to replace it and you're all set.

Beware though, these engines are 2.5 liters and at 14 PSI torque-steer can be very bad and rip the steering wheel out of your hand if you are not gripping it hard enough. The stock turbo is extremely undersized and spools instantly (full boost at 2000 RPM).
On a budget of $1000 (after initial purchase of the car) you can get around 250 WHP. Well, you might have to throw in a couple extra bucks for a new clutch so it can handle the power.

Oh, and my insurance......$600 a year.
