Re: A Question maybe you guys can answer

im assuming its an automatic, also, what kind of driving? just regular easy driving, or hard full throttle racing? also what year? engine? tranny? this will help decide the problem.

Possibly the torque converter switch (solenoid) is locking the TC up in second for some reason.

Re: A Question maybe you guys can answer

ok, by loosing power, describe as best you can what happens, does the engine bog, rpms go down, car slows, or do the rpms go up, but the car stops accelerating.

if the rpms drop with the speed, it may be transmission and it may be engine. the rpm drop from first to second gear is very large in the 700R4, it leads to a bog in some engines. which is most noticeable at low rpms. The transmission may be fine, but the rpm drop from 1st to 2nd may be highlighting a beginning engine problem. so thats something to look into. check your air fuel and spark to make sure everything is fine. perhaps you are due for a tuneup.

If the rpms go up while the car is slowing down, you may have a burned up clutchpack, or the sunshell like 92rs25th suggested. or some other internal fault.

Tranny work is really expencive and hard to do, so i would look at the engine as a starting point, also because the clutchpacks for the second gear are shared by the 1st gear, so if you loose one, you should have lost the other as well.

My car the rps dont go up or down.. it will go up until it sounds like it needs to shift in to third then stays there alittle bit and takes it time shifting in to third.. then it is fine it just has a rough time going for second to third..

Re: A Question maybe you guys can answer

sounds like it might be a weak band or low transmission fluid. check your trans fluid level with the engine running, for what ever reason it would seem that your line pressure isnt high enough in second gear to shift normally. If its internal failure such as a band or sun shell your probly gonna need to take it to a transmission shop.

Re: A Question maybe you guys can answer

Inside the transmission there is a pressure band, ill be completely honest, i dont know exactly what it does lol, dont know alot about tranny design, havent had a chance to take a class on them, but i believe it applies pressure to the clutch packs not unlike a clutch spring, if it was not working right, the shift would not be happening normally.

also something else i thought of, is a shift solenoid. the modern automatics are computer controled, and rely on solenoids to actuate the fluid valves. If this solenoid goes bad, it may cause the condition you are having.

again i apologize that im not more helpuful, im taking shots in the dark baised on what i remember my tranny guy working on at the shop. so there are holes in what i remember.

i have just gave the car a tune-up so thats done...it seems that at the beginning of second its almost like the rpms are too low and the car doesn't like it..lol...maybe its normal....it seems low rpms bogs the car down....but the rpms are just low at the beginning of second...i don't know what it is.....
