Re: 93 rodeo stalling problem

You might want to check for any error code even though there is no Check Engine Light showing.

Does the engine stall when put in reverse?

Does the engine stalls or vibrate hard when you rev the engine while the transmission is in Neutral or Park?

How old is the battery? Older battery might not be able to hold proper charge and your alternator could be partially failing and not providing enough power when the transmission is moved out of Park.

Make sure you don't have a vacuum leak somewhere.

the battery isn't a bad place to start. i just went though this on a 95 rodeo. after it would warm up, it stalled every time i stopped and came to in idle. it was pouring gas out the tail pipe, ran horrible until the check engine light came on and then it would run fine until it turned off again. we ran a scanner on it and replaced every sensor in the engine. turned out we had all those problems because of a weak battery. i was told it was something about when they go to an idle, it switches from the alternator to the battery and if it doesn't have enough power, it stalls. atleast get your battery tested, it could be a cheap fix.

i'll check the battery, not quite sure how old it is. there is no smoke or gas out the tail pipe, and i'm still looking for vaccum leaks. there is no noticeable or audible ones thus far.

Re: 93 rodeo stalling problem

First thing I would check is battery...remember, check the cheapest part first...bring the truck to Autozone or Pepboys to have your battery and alternator checked....free...but u mentioned that the car stalls when in gear, so that means starting is not an issue....at this point, check for pressure drops and electrical issues....sometimes a loose connection in the electronics such as distributors is a culprit.
